How this checker works (open methodology)
This is a pre-checker, not a full benefits calculator. It screens for the two most under-claimed pensioner benefits using rates: Pension Credit (tops up weekly income to £ single / £ couple; savings under £ ignored, each £500 above counts as £1/week income) and Attendance Allowance (£ or £/week; based purely on care needs — never on income or savings). In Scotland, new Attendance Allowance claims are made as Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP) via Social Security Scotland — same rates, different claim route. The checker deliberately errs on the side of "worth checking": income top-ups can be higher with disability additions, carer additions, housing costs, or Savings Credit (if State Pension age was reached before April 2016), so a "close" answer is treated as worth a full check. For a definitive answer it hands off to the free GOV.UK-endorsed calculators (entitledto, Turn2us) or the claim lines directly.
This tool provides general information, not financial or benefits advice. Rates are for the tax year. In Scotland, Attendance Allowance has been replaced by Pension Age Disability Payment (PADP) at the same rates; Northern Ireland rates match but claim routes differ. Eligibility is always determined by the DWP (or Social Security Scotland) on a full claim.
